Imagine a soft, warm quilt, not just any quilt, but one stitched with love, prayer, and the comforting words of Scripture.  This is the gift offered by the Comfort Quilters of Crossroads Church, a ministry that wraps those battling cancer or other health challenges in a tangible embrace of God's love.

For over two decades, the Comfort Quilters have created these unique quilts, each a testament to faith and compassion. The idea originated with Gayle Brossman-Watters, who brought the vision from a visit to a church in Las Vegas. Since 2002, this dedicated group of women, including the passionate Barbara Poe, meet on the first Friday of each month in the Ministry Center, room 110, from 9 AM to 12 Noon, to craft these tangible blessings.

Barbara Poe is a vital part of the Comfort Quilters ministry, embodying the spirit of service and compassion. More than just blankets, these quilts are vessels of hope. Each square is carefully chosen, each stitch infused with prayer.  Scripture verses adorn the fabric, offering words of encouragement and strength to those facing difficult health journeys.  As the quilters work, they pray not only for the recipient but also for their families and caregivers. The finished product is a beautiful, personalized gift that provides both physical warmth and spiritual comfort.

The impact of these quilts is profound. God has used this ministry to touch countless lives, with quilts being distributed not only within the Crossroads congregation but also shipped across the United States to friends and family members. The stories of gratitude are overwhelming.

One recipient shared, "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the fabulous quilt…it means more to me than you can ever imagine. I read it every day."

Another wrote, "My friend delivered your incredible creation to me. Oh, what a gift – what a treasure – what a comfort! Only God's Word supplies hope. As I look to Him for comfort amid stage 4 cancer, I will claim each perfect verse on my quilt."

Even children facing health challenges are blessed by these special quilts, bringing joy to both them and their parents. A Cardinals fan received a quilt featuring his favorite team’s logo, a testament to the personalized care put into each creation.

The Comfort Quilters ministry thrives on a variety of spiritual gifts working in harmony.  The gifts of compassion, mercy, and service drive the desire to create these comforting gifts. Craftsmanship and creativity are evident in the beautiful designs and careful construction of each quilt. The gift of intercession is woven into every stitch, as the quilters pray for the recipients. And the gift of encouragement shines through the scripture verses and heartfelt messages that accompany each quilt.

The Comfort Quilters envision a future where even more people are touched by the love and comfort of these special quilts. They hope to expand their reach, increase their volunteer base, and continue to find new and creative ways to offer support and encouragement to those in need. They dream of having ample resources to provide quilts to anyone who requests one, ensuring that no one facing a health crisis feels alone.

This vital ministry is always looking for more volunteers.  Whether you're a seasoned quilter or simply have a heart for service, there's a place for you.  You can help by sewing, cutting fabric, tracing verses, or even donating cotton fabric or funds for supplies. As Barbara Poe, one of the dedicated volunteers, shares, "It is a joy to serve the Lord in this capacity."
